Our Story

We met at work in May 2017, but our first real interaction was during an after-work happy hour, where we realized we both really loved music and going to concerts. The next week, Austin sent Tessa a message with a song to check out (“Wow” by Beck) and that started our daily conversations about music and life.

We continued getting closer and sending each other songs every day, and in February 2018, we FINALLY went on our first date at the 20th Century Theater for a Hippo Campus concert.

On September 1st, 2020, Austin suggested we take Stella to the Ohio River for a walk. I didn’t know he was proposing, but we’ve been going there together since before we started dating. This has always been a special place for us!

We had been walking for a while and were about to start heading back to the car, so I stopped and asked him to take a picture with me. After we did that, he stopped and said “hold up,” pulled out the ring and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I’m still not 100% sure if I ever said yes, but I know for a fact that I am so excited to marry him!

I want to marry Austin for so many reasons! He’s goofy (like me), he makes me feel beautiful, he makes me feel safe, he makes me laugh. He is very kind-hearted and is nice to everyone he meets. He’s such a hard worker and isn’t the type to give up on something when he’s struggling.

I am not afraid to be myself. I can cry and look an absolute mess, but he still loves me and thinks I am beautiful and doesn’t forget to tell me. He is AMAZING with Stella, and that is so comforting to me. Lastly, he’s my best friend! I legitimately cannot imagine my life without him.

We currently live in Northern Kentucky with our puppy, Stella. Because of COVID-19, we’re both still working from home, so we’re basically together 24/7.

After work, we play with Stella or take her to the park for a walk. Then we decide who is cooking, aka Tessa cooks. With COVID-19, we’ve been watching a ton of different TV shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Office,” “Love at First Sight,” and every season of “House Hunters”.

One thing that’s kept us busy during the pandemic is raising Stella! We’ve had many vet visits -- both scheduled and unexpected -- but these experiences have prepared us for all the unexpected events life can throw at us. Most of all, it’s taught us to be patient, persistent

and even more loving.

Tuesday, September 1st was the day that I knew I was going to ask my best friend and soulmate to marry me. I was nervous and excited. The weather forecast the day before looked like it could be raining, however, it turned out to be a nice day for a walk down at the riverfront with our puppy, Stella. The morning of, and during my lunch break, Stella and I went for a small walk to practice proposing (so she wouldn’t eat the ring).

That morning, I messaged Tessa’s dad and her best friend, Abi, to let them know that today was the day. I got a lot of excited and supportive responses, including a lot of exclamation points from Abi. At the end of the work day, I got the ring, packed up Stella’s stuff and we made our way down to the riverfront for a short walk.

When we got out of the car, it really set in that this was happening. We were walking and I was nervous, even though I knew she would say yes. Stella was being curious, but helped calm my nerves. We went under the bridge and shortly after, we stopped to take a picture. That was my chance, so I asked Tessa to hold on for a second, had Stella sit and stay, and then asked Tessa to be my wife. I forget exactly what I said because I was so nervous, but she said yes and that is all that matters.

Tessa is an amazing woman. She is my best friend, my soulmate and the only person I want to be with. I enjoy spending time with her whether it’s just on car rides, taking the dog for a walk or when I’m beating her in Mario Kart. Tessa is someone I can be myself around, because she enjoys who I am and we laugh way too much when we are together. Tessa makes me so happy especially on tough days.

She is also an absolutely amazing puppy mom! The love she shows Stella and me is so genuine and sweet. Tessa is the most amazing person I have met and I am extremely lucky to have her in my life.
